The stagings
Regia e costumi — signed together, which is the unusual part.
Alberto Allegrezza signs regia e costumi together. The combination is unusual: the staging and the clothes are decided by one hand, and by a hand that has spent its working life on the other side of the footlights.
He staged L'amazzone corsara for the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, and L'incoronazione di Poppea, Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Il trionfo di Camilla and La catena d'Adone for the Cappella musicale di San Petronio in Bologna.
With Dramatodía, the company he founded, he directs and designs the madrigal comedies and theatrical entertainments of the Cinque–Seicento.
Alberto Allegrezza signs regia e costumi together. The combination is unusual, and it is the point: the staging and the clothes are decided by one hand, and by a hand that has spent its working life on the other side of the footlights, in the buffo and travesti roles of the Neapolitan and Venetian repertoire.
For the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik he staged Carlo Pallavicino's L'amazzone corsara, which had its premiere on 18 August 2022.
For the Cappella musicale di San Petronio in Bologna he has directed, and designed the costumes for, L'incoronazione di Poppea, Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Il trionfo di Camilla and La catena d'Adone.
With Dramatodía, the company he founded, he directs and designs the madrigal comedies and theatrical entertainments of the Cinque–Seicento — Banchieri, Vecchi, Croce, Andreini, Charpentier — and the company's recordings for Tactus carry his name as director as well as singer.
The same reading underlies all of it: the gesture of the late Renaissance and early Baroque stage, which he teaches from the treatises, and which decides how a body stands and what a hand does long before it decides how a set looks.
